COMPOSITION:
The trade name of this product is also named as Albentong 600. Each bolus contains albendazole 600mg.
DESCRIPTION:
Albentong 600 is a green or pink colored oblonged scored on one side bolus & it is a broad spectrum anthelmintic which is extremely active against most nematode and some cestodes wrorms including tape worms & adult liver fluke.
PHARMACOLOGY:
Albentong 600 with it’s low solubility, limited amount of the given dose of Albentong 600 is absorbed from the stomach and intestine. However, once the drug is absorbed peak plasma level can occur in 2-4hours.The plasma level is seldom greater than 1% of the dose administered because of it’s relatively low solubility. Albentong 600 is slowly excreted.
MODE OF ACTION:
It is considered that Albentong 600 acts on helminthes by inhibiting the fumerate system and has an influence in the uptake of glucose and can effect glycogen metabolism. This action is noticeable in that the intestinal cells of the parasite are unable to absorb nutrients so that the parasite is eventually starved of glycogen. Albentong 600 because of it’s slower metabolism have a more prolonged effect the helminthes and thus increase the possibility of glycogen starvation.
INDICATION:
Albentong 600 is approved for the following endoparasites of cattle/ sheep/ goat: ostertagia ostertagi, haemonchus spp., trichostrongylus spp., nematodius spp., cooperia spp., bunostomum phlebotomum, oesphagostomum spp., dictacaulus spp., fasciola hepatica (adults), and moniezia spp.
Horses : large & small strongyles, oxyuris equi, trichostrongylus spp & ascardis spp.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
For horses: 5-10mg/kg of body weight for oral dosing.
For cattle, sheep and goats: 10-15mg/kg of body weight for oral dosing.
SIDE EFFECTS:
No side effects at the prescribed dosage rate.
WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS:
Albentong 600 at the fluke leved dose to ewes should not be dosed during tupping and for one month after the rams are removed.
Pregnant ewes have shown teratogenic effects during the 2nd, 3th and 4th week of gestation so it is contraindicated and should not be prescribed in first month of pregnancy.
WITHDRAWAL TIME:
Cattle: 14 days.
Sheep and goats: 4 days.
Milk: 60 hours after weaning.
STORAGE:
Store in a cool , dry and dark place below 30℃.
PRESENTATION:
Blistered boluses in packs of 50 or 50 boluses /Jar.
VALIDITY:
4 years.
